A wind advisory remains in effect from 2 pm this afternoon to 5 am pdt wednesday.
* timing: gusts will begin to increase late this morning and peak in the evening after 5 pm.
* winds: west 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Ridge gusts around 65 mph this afternoon increasing up to 80 mph tonight.
* impacts: motorists on north-south highways should be cautious as strong crosswinds are possible...especially along highway 395 from reno south into mono county. Additionally...areas of blowing dust due to the gusty winds could reduce visibility at times.

* red flag warning from noon to 11 pm pdt tuesday for greater reno- carson city-minden area-greater lake tahoe area-eastern alpine county-mineral and southern lyon counties-mono county.
* wind advisory from 2 pm today to 5 am pdt wednesday for greater reno-carson city-minden area-mono county.
* lake wind advisory from noon today to 5 am pdt wednesday for greater lake tahoe area.
* lake wind advisory from noon to 8 pm pdt today for western nevada basin and range including pyramid lake. A strong low pressure system will drop southward along the west coast today and then move across northern california and nevada wednesday and thursday. It will bring much cooler conditions with lows dipping below freezing at higher elevations in the sierra wednesday and thursday night. This system will also bring isolated showers to the region. The main impact from this system will be strong and gusty winds this afternoon and evening. Widespread wind gusts to 40 mph are likely with locally stronger wind gusts...up to 55 mph...along the eastern sierra. Ridge gusts could reach up to 80 mph late tonight. In addition...areas of blowing dust may reduce visibility...
Especially in the western nevada basin and range along and east of highway 95. Persons with interests in the sierra and western nevada this week should monitor weather forecasts closely and stay tuned for additional statements from the national weather service.
